Do this BEFORE diving deep into the dark night of the soul

The importance of meditation BEFORE diving deep into the dark night of the soul: Learn to crawl before walking

As more and more people are engaging in plant medicine, shadow work retreats, deep inner mummy and daddy work (yayyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!) and boy am I sooooo happy for you all, I want to share with you the importance of having a meditation practice. Why?

I have witnessed people getting stuck on a bridge between their old paradigm and the new paradigm, stuck in limbo, scared, paranoid, unable to go back to the past, nor the courage and will to move forward into the future.

Meditation enables you to return to your center of truth. In particular, heart meditations enable you to return to your heart center. Having a practice of meditation, builds you a solid foundation for shadow work (and life dramas in general). When you are pulled out of your comfort zone through fear, shame, disgust - you now have a well practiced tool to return to your heart center.

If you don’t, it is a bit like learning to walk, but skipping the crawling part. Sure you can still walk, but if you begin to run, or squat with weights, chances are your functional movement patterns are likely to be out, thus a higher chance of stumbling, falling, injuries. Well, this is what early development exercise physiology studies show.. (yes, I’m sure there are exceptions to the study groups.)

Of all of the people I have witnessed doing this inner work journey, those who have experienced the greatest transformations have all had some kind of deep meditation practice, vipassana, darkroom, ATIH, TSOTH, etc.. and of these meditations, the different forms of heart meditation have been the most effective. Some say “I’ve done a lot of meditation and nothing has been happening”. Look at how you’re doing. What’s the setting? What distracts you? Does it feel like a safe space? Are you able to drop into your heart? Often group meditations / retreats don’t feel like safe space due to social anxiety..

One of my favourite places to take one-on-one practicing meditators is McDonald’s. If you can meditate, eyes open and drop into your heart there, you can do it anywhere! Some people say “I have to be in nature”, “it needs to be quiet”, “I need blindfolds and earplugs”. Once you can do it in McDonalds, the setting and environment become irrelevant. We can work ourselves up to that level. So, instead of saying meditation isn’t working for me, I’ve tried so much, victim mode - woe is me: CHANGE YOUR STORY. “I need to make my meditation effective, let’s make some changes here, baby steps”
